English of Core Text: Rabbi Yirmeyah ben Elazar said: This teaches that the Holy One, blessed be He, acted as groomsman for Adam the first man; and from here the Torah taught proper conduct — that a great person should attend to a lesser person in the role of groomsman and not feel it beneath him.
On the daf / in context: God’s bringing of Chavah to Adam is the model for a distinguished person serving as shoshvin for someone of lower status.
Type of Learning: Custom (God as shoshvin / derech eretz)
What Is Learned: God Himself served as Adam’s groomsman; therefore a greater person should not refrain from serving as groomsman for a lesser one.
