The Complete Passuk

וַֽיְהִ֖י בְּנׇסְעָ֣ם מִקֶּ֑דֶם וַֽיִּמְצְא֥וּ בִקְעָ֛ה בְּאֶ֥רֶץ שִׁנְעָ֖ר וַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּ שָֽׁם׃

And as they journeyed from the east, they found a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there.

Torah Temimah notes the movement into Shinar (site of the Tower).

Core Text

בְּנׇסְעָם מִקֶּדֶם — נָסְעוּ מִן הַקֶּדֶם שֶׁהָיָה שָׁם אָדָם הָרִאשׁוֹן.

English: “As they journeyed from the east” — they journeyed away from the east where Adam had been.

The generation moved from the earlier eastern habitation into the valley of Shinar.
