וְלָקַחְתִּ֨י אֶתְכֶ֥ם לִי֙ לְעָ֔ם וְהָיִ֥יתִי לָכֶ֖ם לֵֽאלֹהִ֑ים וִֽידַעְתֶּ֗ם כִּ֣י אֲנִ֤י יְהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹ֣הֵיכֶ֔ם הַמּוֹצִ֣יא אֶתְכֶ֔ם מִתַּ֖חַת סִבְל֥וֹת מִצְרָֽיִם׃

And I will take you to be My people, and I will be your God. And you shall know that I, the ETERNAL, am your God who freed you from the labors of the Egyptians.

ולקחתי אתכם — תניא, ר׳ סמאי אומר: נאמר ולקחתי אתכם ונאמר והבאתי אתכם אל הארץ, מקיש יציאתם ממצרים לביאתם לארץ.

English: “And I will take you” — it was taught, R’ Simai says: It is said “I will take you” and it is said “I will bring you to the land”; he compares their leaving Egypt to their entering the land.

On the daf / in context: Just as only a remnant of the generation entered the land, so only a portion of those who left Egypt completed the journey — a sobering count of the wilderness generation.
