הַכֹּהֵן הַמָּשִׁיחַ — יָכוֹל זֶה מֶלֶךְ? תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר כֹּהֵן. אִי כֹּהֵן, יָכוֹל מְרֻבֶּה בְּגָדִים? תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר מָשִׁיחַ. אִי מָשִׁיחַ, יָכוֹל מְשׁוּחַ מִלְחָמָה? תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר הַכֹּהֵן הַמָּשִׁיחַ.
English: “The anointed kohen” — might this be a king? The Torah says “kohen.” If only “kohen,” might it include one invested by extra garments? It says “anointed.” If only “anointed,” might it include the battle-anointed kohen? It says “the anointed kohen.”
On the daf / in context: Baraisa narrows the special bull-chatas of 4:3 to the uniquely anointed High Priest — not a king, not a merubeh begadim substitute, not the mashuach milchamah.
