וברך פרי בטנך. תניא, ר' נתן אומר, מניין שאין פרי בטנה של אשה מתברך אלא מפרי בטנו של איש, שנאמר וברך פרי בטנך, פרי בטנה לא נאמר אלא פרי בטנך נראה ענין ברכה זו ע"פ מ"ד בעדיות פ"ה מ"י האב זוכה לבן בנוי בכח בעושר בחכמה ובשנים, ור"ל שבמדות האלו נוטה טבע הבן להאב, ולכן אם האב מבורך במדות אלו מתברכת גם האשה להוליד לו בנים כאלה, וטעם הדרשה נראה דמדייק משום דכשמדבר עם איש אינו שייך הלשון פרי בטן, דלשון זה נאות יותר כשמדברים לאשה, כמו מבטן אמי אלי אתה (תהילים כ״ב:י״א) וכדומה, אבל לאיש נאות יותר לומר פרי חלציך, כמו ומלכים מחלציך יצאו (פ' תולדות), בנך היוצא מחלציך (מלכים א ח׳:י״ט).
גם י"ל דמדייק למה כתיב בסמוך לא יהיה בך עקר ועקרה וכאן לא פירש ברכה לאשה, ולכן דריש שברכת הבנים של אשה כלולה בברכת האיש, מה שאין כן ברכת העדר עקרה אינה שייכת לברכת האיש שזה מום בפ"ע.
English: R’ Natan says: Whence that a woman’s fruit of the womb is blessed only through the man’s fruit of the womb? As it is said, “He will bless the fruit of your womb” — it does not say “her womb” but “your (masc.) womb.” The son tends to take after the father’s traits (beauty, strength, wealth, wisdom, years); therefore when the father is blessed in these, the wife is blessed to bear such children. The unusual address to the man with “fruit of the womb” (normally said of a woman) is the midrashic hook.
