You must not bring an abhorrent thing into your house, or you will be proscribed like it; you must reject it as abominable and abhorrent, for it is proscribed.
אל ביתך. אין משכירין בתי דירה לעובדי כוכבים בארץ ישראל מפני שמכניסין לתוכן עבודת כוכבים, וכתיב ולא תביא תועבה אל ביתך ומבואר דבחו"ל מותר, ואע"פ דפסוק זה בסתמא כתיב בין בארץ בין בחו"ל, אך כל פסוק זה לענין זה הוי אסמכתא בעלמא משום דעיקר קרא איירי בישראל המכניס עבודת כוכבים לביתו, ולכן בארץ שאנו מצווים לשרש אחר עבודת כוכבים אסרו חכמים להשכיר לבית דירה משא"כ בחו"ל, ועיין בר"ן ובתוי"ט כאן.
English: One may not rent dwelling houses to non-Jews in the Land of Israel, because they bring idols into them, and it is written, “You shall not bring an abomination into your house.” Outside the Land this is permitted. The verse is an asmakhta for the rabbinic rule in the Land, where we are commanded to uproot idolatry.
