מרשית השנה וגו'. אמר רב יהודה אמר רב, שנה טובה צריכה רחמים, דכתיב תמיד עיני ה' אלהיך בה מראשית השנה ועד אחרית שנה ר"ל כל משך השנה צריך לבקש רחמים שיהיה השנה לטובה ולא די בבקשה זמנית, יען כי כמפרש שעיני ה' אלהיך בה מראשית ועד אחרית שנה, הרי שאין הקב"ה מסיח דעתו כביכול כל משך השנה, ויתכן דס"ל כמ"ד בר"ה י"ז א' אדם נדון בכל יום, ועיי"ש בתוס'.
English: Rav Yehudah said in the name of Rav: A good year needs [ongoing] mercy, as it is written “the eyes of Hashem your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the year’s end.” One must seek mercy for the whole year, not only at a single moment, because God does not, as it were, look away for the duration of the year.
