TT lemma: לבהמתך.
English: Rav Yehudah said in the name of Rav: A person is forbidden to eat before he gives food to his animal, as it is said, “I will give grass in your field for your cattle,” and only afterward, “you shall eat and be satisfied.” Another version: forbidden even to taste first. The Shulchan Aruch omitted this as a general ruling, and the matter needs study. From Rambam it sounds like a middat chasidut. The Magen Avraham cites Sefer Chasidim that animals precede man for eating, but for drinking man comes first, as with Rivkah: “Drink, and I will also water your camels.”

The Gemara uses this passuk in a sugya (proof, illustration, or dispute). Named as one of R' Yishmael’s 13 or R' Eliezer’s 32 only when that move is explicit.
The verse’s order — grass for the animal before “you shall eat” — trains compassion into daily routine: the animal’s need is not an afterthought.
