English: “And you serve other gods” — and afterward it is written, “the anger of Hashem will burn against you and He will shut up the heavens and there will be no rain.” This teaches that because of the sin of idolatry the rains are held back. Other punishments for idolatry are listed elsewhere; both sets come because of the severity of the sin, for one who admits idolatry is as one who denies the whole Torah (Chullin 5a).
