Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: “Haskes” — be silent (has) and afterward crush (kattet). A person should always learn Torah first and only afterward meditate upon it.

On the daf: A third reading splits the word: first silence the urge to innovate and receive the text; only then engage in deep analysis. Order of learning matters.

Type of Learning

Custom (third derasha splitting the unique word).

What Is Learned

First acquire the plain text; only afterward analyze and innovate.
